One of the approaches to assess the effectiveness and goal achievement of various economic sectors is to estimate their efficiency. Economies, depending on their structural characteristics, face different levels of inefficiency. Over the past century, industrial strategies have facilitated the economic growth of countries, highlighting the pivotal role of the industrial sector in national development. In this context, the present study aims to examine the production, employment, and capital efficiency of Iranian industries based on two-digit ISIC codes during the period 2007–2021 (1386–1400 in the Iranian calendar) using statistical evidence. To achieve the research objectives, a stochastic frontier approach is employed. The findings indicate that, on average, the production efficiency of Iran’s industrial sector during this period is 44%, implying a production inefficiency of 56%. This indicates that, given the current input levels, actual production is 56% below the potential level. Furthermore, employment and capital efficiency in the industrial sector over the same period are 35% and 54%, respectively.
